Sugar Maple
One day my dad was on the computer
looking at our Modern Woodmen of America insurance. I noticed
they
had a "plant-a-tree
program" giving away free trees. My dad and I are members so
we could order trees. I clicked on it and compared the trees to
see which one I wanted. I chose a Sugar Maple because it grows up
to 75 feet tall with a 50 foot spread. The company sent the tree
in the mail when it is time to plant it.
Four
weeks later the tree came in the
mail. My parents asked me where I wanted to plant the Sugar
Maple. I decided to plant it at my school since this is my
last year. I got permission from our principal Ms. Watts.
Then we picked a place to plant my tree between two buildings by the
playground. We chose this spot because it will help shade the
building and look nice.
During spring break, my parents drove me
to Lowe's. We bought soil, fire red mulch, and a small white
fence to put around the tree so students would not step on it.
Then we went to the school and drove around back and dug a hole.
Then I planted the tree. I put the fence around the tree to help
hold the mulch in. I used the water hose at the school to water
the tree. The tree needs to be watered once a week for the first
year. In the future, I hope many students will enjoy the shade
from the tree.
