Laura Gafford

First Grade Teacher

Mrs. Gafford has been part of the Jim Allen Family for eleven years. She started as a Chapter One Tutor, then a year long intern, and this is her eighth year teaching. Her first grade class benefits from her professionalism, creativeness and enthusiasm. She likes to do something new each year. Recently her class completed an indepth unit about bats. The children learned new vocabulary (such as echolocation) and practiced reading, writing and math skills. (they thought they were just playing!)

Mrs. Gafford helps students prepare for FCAT writing by using the Four Square Method. Here's a little individual attention. You might even catch Mrs. Gafford in the Listening Center. Which one is the teacher?

Here's a hard working group of first graders! Computer instruction & practice are an integral part of this first grade class.
